Communicate a clear vision that motivates your workforce

A motivated workforce needs an inspiring vision: not a flowery mission statement or catchy slogan, but a clear picture of what your organization is trying to accomplish, and why it’s important.
To create that vision, be ready to answer these questions:
What will the organization look like in five years? Explore this question in terms of the products and services you’ll offer, the new customers you’ll be serving, where you might expand geographically, and so forth.
What will people say about your organization? Cast a wide net: Include customers, employees, strategic partners, vendors, the community—anyone who might be considered a stakeholder.
What will your culture look like? Your vision should shape the atmosphere of your organization and workplace. What will working here be like? How will your values—honesty, customer focus—reflect your vision?
What direction do you need to take? Compare your five-year vision with where you are right now. What steps can you take to move toward realizing your vision? Consider the obstacles you’ll face, and develop strategies for overcoming them—but be flexible. You probably won’t be able to anticipate every difficulty.
