Trust is based on consistency—employees need to know they can depend on your judgment day in and day out. Here are two areas where consistency is essential in dealing with your workforce:
• Availability. Yes, sometimes you need privacy to meet with people, make decisions, and plan your strategy. But make a point of being accessible to your employees every day so they know they can come to you with questions and ideas.
• Confidences. Don’t gossip or share information that employees have given you in confidence. Respect their privacy, and they’ll respect you.
